MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team returns home for a pivotal Horizon League series against Northern Kentucky. The doubleheader is set for Friday, April 4 at 1:00 PM, with the series finale scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at 12:00 PM. All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with commentary from Adam Gusky and Gero von Dehn.
RMU LATELY
RMU (15-10, 7-2 #HLSB) continues its impressive run after defeating Pitt 7-1 for the first time since 2014. The Colonials were led by
Sequoia Dunlap's two-home run, four-RBI performance, while freshman
Mary Brant also went deep. RMU outhit Pitt 8-3 and was anchored by another strong outing from
Madison DeVault, who pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits, one run, and striking out five batters.
Statistically,
Courtney Poulich leads the Colonials in batting average (.384), runs (26), hits (28), doubles (7), home runs (8), RBI (32), and on-base percentage (.471).
Mary Brant also boasts seven doubles and eight home runs while leading the team in slugging percentage (.913). Leadoff hitter
Kaylyn Hopf has contributed 28 hits and seven doubles. In the circle,
Madison DeVault holds a 2.71 ERA with six wins and 61 strikeouts.
DOUBLE TIME
RMU ranks seventh in the nation in doubles per game, averaging 1.92 per contest. The Colonials have recorded 48 doubles this season, with Poulich, Brant, Hopf, and
Jess Matheny each producing seven.
Anna Resnik has also added six doubles this season.
FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS
Freshman
Mary Brant has emerged as one of the most impressive first-year players in the Horizon League and across all of Division I softball. Brant currently ranks:
- Fourth in the Horizon League in batting average (.377)
- First in slugging percentage (.913)
- First in OPS (1.340)
- Third in RBI (25)
- Tied for first in home runs (8), alongside her teammate Poulich
ALL-TIME VS. NKU
Since 2017, RMU holds a 10-5 all-time record against NKU. Last season, the Colonials took the series by winning the first two games of a three-game set in Kentucky.
Courtney Poulich recorded two RBI during the series, while Hopf, Resnik, and
Logan Black each added one. DeVault contributed two saves, pitching 3.1 innings without allowing a hit and recording two strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
NKU (16-16, 7-2 #HLSB) enters the series tied with RMU for first place in the conference standings. The Norse recently dropped two of three games against Cleveland State.
Freshman outfielder Campbell Beatty leads NKU in batting average (.333), runs (22), and on-base percentage (.438). Senior outfielder Olivia Pastin has been a key power hitter for the Norse, leading the team in hits (33), doubles (9), home runs (4), and RBI (26). In the circle, sophomore Brooklyn Ballis serves as the primary starter with a 4.57 ERA, seven wins, and 51 strikeouts.
UP NEXT
RMU will head back on the road for another conference series at Youngstown State. The three-game set is scheduled for April 8-9.
