Colonials Close Out Regular Season at Bowling Green

5/1/2025 7:10:00 PM

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team is set to wrap up its regular season with a non-conference series on the road at Bowling Green. The Colonials will open the three-game set on Friday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Live stats and radio coverage will be available for all three contests.

RMU LATELY
RMU enters the final weekend of regular season play with a record of 26-15 overall and 16-7 in Horizon League action. The Colonials are coming off a pivotal series win against Cleveland State, taking two of three games to keep momentum heading into postseason play. On Sunday, RMU capped the weekend with back-to-back victories — a 4-1 win followed by a commanding 11-3 performance — fueled by a combined 29 hits over the two games. Senior pitcher Madison DeVault earned her 10th win of the season, while Madelyn Coleman picked up her fifth.

Sunday's finale marked a high point offensively, as RMU recorded a season-best 17 hits. Seven different players collected multiple hits in the game, which also marked the 14th time this season the Colonials have posted double-digit hits in a single contest — winning all 14 of those games. In addition to the offensive fireworks, RMU set three new single-season program records over the weekend. The team has now recorded 72 doubles, breaking the previous mark set in 1997. They also surpassed the single-season records for RBIs (234) and stolen bases (69), both of which had stood for decades.

The offensive depth has been a strength all year. Sophomore Kaylyn Hopf leads the team with a .388 batting average and a team-high 52 hits. Senior Courtney Poulich has been one of the most dangerous hitters in the Horizon League, leading RMU in home runs, doubles, triples, RBIs, and slugging percentage. Senior Anna Resnik has crossed the plate 40 times this season — the most on the team — while junior Katlyn Jardine has been a steady presence at the top of the order, boasting the team's highest on-base percentage and most walks drawn.

On the pitching side, DeVault continues to lead the rotation with a 2.63 ERA, 10 wins, and 104 strikeouts. Kaitlyn Molitoris and Coleman have both contributed significantly, with Molitoris earning nine wins and Coleman adding five wins and 49 strikeouts of her own.

TOP OF THE ORDER
Hopf and Resnik also stood out in last week's games against Mercyhurst and Cleveland State. Hopf batted .647 over five games, including three, three-hit outings, while scoring five runs and stealing three bases. Resnik extended her hitting streak to 11 games, finishing the week with a .400 average, eight RBIs, two home runs, and five runs scored.

CHASING HISTORY
As the 2025 season nears its end, several Colonials are within reach of individual single-season records. Poulich's 47 RBIs are just four shy of the all-time mark, while her 11 doubles also place her among the program's elite.

Resnik's 40 runs scored rank third in RMU history, and Jardine's 23 walks are approaching the program record of 29. Hopf's current batting average is one of the highest in program history, trailing only the .418 mark set by Keri Myer in 2005.

As a team, RMU has already scored 261 runs this season and is closing in on the program's single-season record of 293, set in 1997.

ALL-TIME VS. BOWLING GREEN
The Falcons hold a 6-2 edge in the all-time series since 1995 with the Colonials' last win coming in 2014.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Bowling Green enters the series with a 15-35 record overall and a 7-19 mark in MAC play. The Falcons are currently on a 10-game skid but have played solidly at home, posting an even 8-8 record.

Junior Hannah Hunt leads the team in batting average, hits, doubles, and on-base percentage, while freshman Addie Martin has been the team's top run producer, leading in home runs, RBIs, slugging, and stolen bases. In the circle, junior Mackenzie Krafcik leads the pitching staff with a 4.16 ERA and seven wins, supported by Scarlet Anderson and Morgan Beckham.

UP NEXT
Following the series, RMU will turn its focus to the Horizon League Championship, set to take place May 7–10.
