MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Robert Morris University fell to Dayton Flyers in a close 17-14 contest at Joe Walton Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials struck first, with running back
Ethan Shine punching in a two-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter to give RMU a 7-0 lead. Dayton would answer in the second quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Bryce Schondelmyer to Gavin Lochow to tie the game at 7-7 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Robert Morris regained the lead on another touchdown run by Shine, this time from nine yards out, to make it 14-7 in the third quarter. However, Dayton would score 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. The comeback started with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Schondelmyer to Luke Hansen, followed by a game-winning 21-yard field goal from Robby Smart with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
After a bye week, the nonconference schedule concludes on October 4 at Merrimack. The NEC slate begins with defending champion Central Connecticut State on October 11 at Joe Walton Stadium.
