MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team continues its non-conference schedule this week with a road matchup against in-state rival Saint Francis. The game is set for Thursday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
RMU LATELY
RMU (1-0-2) is coming off its first win of the season, a thrilling 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in their home opener. The Colonials' offense was relentless, recording 21 shots—tying the most in a single game under Head Coach
Jonathan Potter—before junior
Kyler Miller scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute. The goal was assisted by captain
William Dodzi Afawubo and freshman
Riley Cotton, who was making his collegiate debut.
So far this season, Miller, along with
Jack Bejarano and
Royie Rahamim, has a goal to his name, while Cotton, Afawubo,
Anass Hadran, and
Victor Thompson have each tallied an assist. On the defensive end, captain
Fabian Overkamp has anchored the backline, playing every minute (270) of the season so far.
LANE'S CONSISTENCY
Junior captain
Josh Lane has been a standout in goal, earning two clean sheets and one win through three games. His .846 save percentage and .667 goals-against average both rank second in the Horizon League among starting goalkeepers. Now in his junior season, Lane has a total of nine career shutouts.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SAINT FRANCIS
This will be the 35th meeting between these two programs, with RMU holding a 16-15-3 all-time series advantage dating back to 1991. Twenty-eight of these contests were conference games when RMU was a member of the NEC, where the Colonials held a 14-12-2 record against the Red Flash.
In recent history, the Colonials have had the upper hand, with a 2-1 victory at home last season and a 2-2 tie the year before. In 2022, RMU won 1-0 at home against SFU. Senior midfielder
Anass Hadran has two assists against the Red Flash in his career.
SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis (0-3) enters Thursday's match looking for its first win and goal of the season. The Red Flash are coming off a 6-0 loss at Maryland, following previous defeats to St. Bonaventure (1-0) and Xavier (3-0). The team returns none of its top three scorers or its starting goalkeeper from last season.
In 2024, SFU finished with a 7-7-2 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in conference play, before their season ended with a 4-1 loss to LIU in the NEC Tournament semifinals. Last season, the Red Flash averaged 1.75 goals per game while giving up 2.06 goals per game on average.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Both teams will face off against a few common opponents this season, including St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, and Mercyhurst.
