RMU Drops Series to Syracuse

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – For the second straight game, the Colonials were held scoreless as RMU fell to Syracuse, 2-0, in the series finale Saturday afternoon. With the loss, RMU moves to 10-14-2 overall and 6-8-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.

FIRST PERIOD
Both teams traded chances throughout a tightly contested opening 20 minutes, with the Colonials generating the best scoring opportunity of the frame. Ashlyn Ham rang a shot off the crossbar midway through the period, narrowly missing the game's opening goal.

Special teams played a role early, as four penalties were called in the first period. RMU was unable to capitalize on its three power-play opportunities, while Syracuse held a slight edge in shots, 9-7, heading into the intermission.

SECOND PERIOD
The Orange broke through halfway through the second period when Rachel Walsh scored the game's opening goal to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse controlled much of the possession in the middle frame, outshooting RMU 12-3, but the Colonials' penalty kill stood tall, denying both Orange power plays to keep the deficit at one after 40 minutes.

THIRD PERIOD
After killing off an early penalty that required six saves from Maggie Hatch, RMU gained extended time in the offensive zone and began to tilt the ice in their favor.

The Colonials carried play late, generating multiple chances and firing several shots on goal, but were unable to find an equalizer. Syracuse sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Jackson Kinsler with 30 seconds remaining to secure the 2-0 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Syracuse held a 29-19 advantage in shots. Senior Morgan Giannone led RMU with five shots on goal.
