WEST POINT, N.Y. – The RMU men's hockey team battled into overtime Friday night at Army but came up just short, falling 3-2 on a goal with 56 seconds remaining in the extra period. With the result, the Colonials move to 4-15-2 overall and 4-8-1 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
RMU set the tone early, controlling possession and pace throughout the opening 20 minutes. The Colonials outshot Army 12-5 in the period and generated 27 total shot attempts, spending extended time in the offensive zone.
Despite RMU's early pressure, the Black Knights struck first. Jude Brower found the back of the net in the 11th minute, sending Army into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
SECOND PERIOD
The Colonials continued to push in the middle frame, and their persistence paid off towards the end of the period.
Following an offensive-zone faceoff win by
Patrick Johnson,
McKay Hayes wrapped the puck around the left side of the zone before finding
Julian Beaumont at the back door. Beaumont tapped the puck home to tie the game at 1-1.
RMU kept the momentum rolling moments later.
Braden Rourke carried the puck up the left wing on the rush and fired a shot that was initially stopped. Rourke collected his own rebound and slipped a pass to Wilson in front, who knocked the puck out of midair and into the net to give the Colonials a 2-1 advantage heading into the final period.
THIRD PERIOD
Army responded in the third, increasing its pressure and outshooting RMU 11-6 in the period. The Black Knights tied the game with just over eight minutes remaining when Billy Batten scored to make it 2-2.
Shortly after, Army earned a five-minute power play with six minutes left in regulation. RMU's penalty kill rose to the challenge, successfully defending the extended advantage to force overtime.

Both teams traded chances during the 3-on-3 overtime session, but Army capitalized late. Nik Hong finished a 2-on-1 rush with 56 seconds remaining to secure the 3-2 win for the Black Knights.
