MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Behind a 33-save shutout from
Lucas Massie and
Tanner Klimpke's second-period game-winner, the RMU men's hockey team edged Holy Cross, 1-0, in the series finale to complete the weekend sweep. The Colonials improve to 7-15-2 overall and 7-8-1 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play and now sit in sixth place in the conference standings.
FIRST PERIOD
The physical tone from Friday night carried into the opening frame, but scoring chances were limited as both defenses held firm. Unlike the series opener, the first 20 minutes remained scoreless.
Holy Cross held a slight edge in shots, 12-9, while each team failed to convert on its lone power-play opportunity of the period.
SECOND PERIOD
The defensive battle continued in the middle frame, with both sides again unable to capitalize on power-play chances.
Late in the period, RMU successfully killed off a Holy Cross power play before striking just as the penalty expired. Captains
Cameron Garvey and
Tanner Klimpke broke free on a 2-on-1 rush, with Garvey finding Klimpke at the back post for the game's only goal.
Dominic Elliott earned the secondary assist.
RMU carried the 1-0 advantage into the second intermission after holding a 12-9 shot edge in the period.
THIRD PERIOD
Holy Cross pressed offensively in the final 20 minutes, sending extra attackers forward in search of the equalizer. The Crusaders earned two power-play opportunities, but RMU's disciplined defensive effort—anchored by Massie in goal—kept the visitors off the scoreboard to secure the series sweep.
