Colonials Fall in Conference Matchup Against Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The RMU women's basketball team fell to Horizon League leader Green Bay 64-43 on Sunday afternoon at the Kress Center.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • The Green Bay offense got off to a quick start in the match, beginning the first quarter on a 10-0 run and holding the Colonials scoreless for nearly nine minutes until Aislin Malcolm got RMU on the board with a layup with 1:19 remaining.
  • RMU went on a 6-0 run to close out the first quarter, featuring four points from Malcolm and a basket from Myriam Traore.
  • In the first quarter, RMU went 3-for-16 from the floor, shooting 18.8% with Malcolm leading Robert Morris with four points. 
SECOND QUARTER
  • Robert Morris found themselves down 18-6 with 7:34 remaining in the first half as the Phoenix started the second quarter on an 8-0 run to force a Robert Morris timeout.
  • Green Bay extended its run to 14-0 before Ava Leroux got two quick points for RMU with a layup off an assist from Jada Lee with 5:29 left.
  • Another 8-0 run by Green Bay made it 32-8 before Traore picked up her second bucket of the night with 28 seconds left to make it 32-10 going into the half.
THIRD QUARTER
  •  Unlike the first two quarters, the third quarter started with teams trading baskets back-and-forth, with Malcolm hitting a pair of free throws to make it 34-12.
  • With 6:54 on the clock, Myriam Traore hit the first three of the afternoon for RMU, making it 36-15.
  • The Colonials had their biggest quarter of the contest in the third, picking up 17 points on 41.7% shooting. Noa Givon led the Colonials with seven points in the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Green Bay started off the final frame on a 4-0 run before Markeli Jones-Tynes hit a three-pointer to start the Colonials on a 7-0 run, making the score 57-34 with 6:39 to go.
  • With 2:16 on the clock, Noa Givon hit double-digit scoring with a made jumper to make it 61-39 before getting the Colonials' final basket of the afternoon with two seconds left on the clock to end the contest at 64-43 in favor of Green Bay.
  • In the fourth quarter, RMU held Green Bay to just 21.4% shooting from the floor and 16.7% shooting from deep. From the floor, RMU shot 40.0% going 6-for-15 in the final 10 minutes.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Coming off the bench, Noa Givon led the Colonials with 13 points in 23 minutes. Givon went 5-for-9 from the field for 55.6% shooting on the night, while going a perfect 2-for-2 from deep. Myriam Traore was the next highest scorer for the Colonials with seven points while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds to lead on the glass.
 
On the night, the Colonials shot 29.1% from the floor, going 16-for-55, while Green Bay shot 38.6% on 22-for-57 shooting. RMU was beaten on the glass 42-35, with both teams pulling down seven offensive rebounds. Robert Morris got 28 points off the bench and 20 points in the paint.
 
UP NEXT
RMU will return home with a 10-4 overall record and a 3-2 Horizon League record. The Colonials will be back in action on Thursday night as RMU will host Purdue Fort Wayne at the UPMC Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+
