MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team is set to hit the road this week for a pair of Horizon League contests in Michigan. The Colonials will face Detroit Mercy at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, before traveling to Oakland for a 1:00 PM match on Sunday, October 4. Thursday's match at Detroit Mercy will stream live on ESPN+, while live stats will be available for Sunday's contest.
RMU LATELY
RMU (5-4-1, 2-1-0 #HLWSOC) is coming off a 2-0 homestand, earning victories over Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State.
In Thursday's 2-0 victory over the Mastodons,
Julia Becerra scored the game-winning goal on a header off assists from
Alyssa Mella and
Sierra Hess.
Ava Trethewey added her first goal of the season later in the match, with
Madison Sievering recording the assist.
On Sunday against Cleveland State,
Fiona Fraser scored the game-winning goal with 15 minutes remaining in the match. Sievering and
Joey Tomlinson were credited with assists on the goal. Senior goalkeeper
Emma Cameron made six saves across the two victories, recording her fourth and fifth clean sheets of the season.
Through 10 games, Sievering leads the Colonials with two goals, four assists and eight points. Becerra has also scored two goals, with both coming as game-winning tallies. Senior captain
Shauna Gamble has played every minute for RMU this season, logging 900 minutes. In goal, Cameron has earned five wins and five clean sheets while making 28 saves.
ALL-TIME VS. DETROIT MERCY
Since joining the Horizon League, RMU is 3-2-1 all-time against Detroit Mercy. Last season, the Colonials earned a 1-0 victory at home, with Trethewey scoring the game-winning goal off an assist from
Ivy Chaskelson. The Titans won the previous meeting, 2-1, in Detroit.
The two seasons prior, RMU earned consecutive 2-1 victories over Detroit Mercy. Gamble recorded an assist in the Colonials' 2023 victory.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy (3-6-1, 1-2-0 #HLWSOC) enters Thursday's match having dropped its last two conference contests. The Titans opened Horizon League play with a 3-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne before falling to Green Bay, 1-0, and Milwaukee, 3-0.
Through 10 games, sophomore midfielder Emma Henry leads the Titans with two goals and one assist. Graduate forward Avery Mondoux has also scored two goals. Junior defender Kayla Duana has started all 10 games and leads the team with 875 minutes played. In goal, senior Eva Hill has started nine games, earning two wins and three shutouts while making 42 saves.
Last season, Detroit Mercy finished 2-13-3 overall and 0-7-3 in Horizon League play.
ALL-TIME VS. OAKLAND
Since 2020, RMU is 1-4-1 all-time against Oakland.
The Golden Grizzlies earned a 3-2 victory in last season's meeting, with Trethewey scoring both goals for the Colonials. The season prior, RMU earned its first victory over Oakland, defeating the Golden Grizzlies, 2-1, in Michigan. Trethewey and Becerra each recorded an assist in the victory.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland (1-7-1, 0-3-0 #HLWSOC) has dropped all three of its Horizon League contests this season, falling to Cleveland State, Milwaukee and Green Bay. The Golden Grizzlies will host Youngstown State on Thursday before welcoming the Colonials on Sunday.
Through nine games, Oakland has scored three goals, with three different players finding the back of the net. Sophomore Corinee Jenkins has played a team-high 757 minutes. In goal, sophomore Norah Schmidt has played every minute for the Golden Grizzlies, earning one win and two shutouts while making 36 saves.
Last season, Oakland finished 4-8-8 overall and 2-2-6 in Horizon League play. The Golden Grizzlies defeated Youngstown State in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament before falling to top-seeded Milwaukee in the semifinals.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Detroit Mercy and RMU have both faced Toledo, Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan during non-conference play. RMU and Oakland have also faced Toledo, Bowling Green, Akron and Mercyhurst.
UP NEXT
RMU will return home to host Northern Kentucky on Saturday, October 10 at 4:00 PM. The match will serve as the Colonials' Alumni Game and will stream live on ESPN+.
