RMU Earns Three Points with 3-1 Victory at NKU

Eckersall scores goal and assist

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – RMU men's soccer scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half to secure a 3-1 road victory over Northern Kentucky. With the win, the Colonials improve to 5-4-5 overall and 2-1-4 in Horizon League play.

FIRST HALF
RMU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on its second shot of the match. Following a shot by John Krug, Riley Cotton collected the rebound and finished to put the Colonials in front.

Northern Kentucky responded four minutes later, as Gregory Jervier II found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.

Over the final 23 minutes of the first half, RMU's defense held the Norse without another shot attempt. Oscar Bech and Matthew Eckersall each recorded a shot on goal, but both attempts were turned away by the NKU goalkeeper. The teams entered halftime tied at one.

SECOND HALF
The Colonials wasted little time reclaiming the lead after the break. Off a corner kick delivered by Joaquin Fazal, Eckersall finished the cross in the 52nd minute to put RMU ahead, 2-1.

Three minutes later, Eckersall made another impact, intercepting a pass in NKU's defensive third before dribbling down the right wing and delivering a cross into the box. Aiden Bernklau-Wostl connected with a header and directed the ball inside the far post to extend the Colonials' advantage to 3-1.

In the 67th minute, captain Miguel Dominguez nearly added another goal, but his shot struck the crossbar.

Northern Kentucky's final major opportunity came in the 83rd minute when the Norse earned a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Josh Lane came up with a diving save to deny the attempt and preserve RMU's two-goal advantage, helping the Colonials secure three valuable points on the road.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU outshot Northern Kentucky, 16-8, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Colonials also held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
