ALL-TIME VS. PENN STATE
RMU and Penn State have met 12 times between 2012 and 2020, with the Nittany Lions holding an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series.

The Colonials' most recent victory over Penn State came during the 2015-16 season at PPG Paints Arena, when RMU defeated the No. 14 Nittany Lions, 6-4. Recent RMU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Zac Lynch played a pivotal role in the win, scoring the game-winning goal and adding two assists for a three-point performance.

Both programs have also earned national recognition during the series. Penn State was nationally ranked in each of the final eight meetings between the teams, while RMU reached No. 19 nationally during the 2014-15 campaign.

Offensively, the Colonials have averaged 3.5 goals per game against the Nittany Lions and have never been shut out in the series. RMU also recorded a shutout victory, blanking Penn State, 6-0, during the 2012-13 season.

SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
Penn State (0-3, 0-0 Big Ten) also enters Tuesday's matchup seeking its first win of the 2026-27 campaign. The Nittany Lions dropped games to No. 14/No. 16 UConn and Sacred Heart at the Ice Breaker Tournament before falling to No. 7/No. 8 Quinnipiac this past weekend.

Through three games, Mac Gadowsky, Justin Larose and Kale Dach have each scored twice, while Justin Poirier leads the team with three assists. Dach paces the Nittany Lions with four points, and Gadowsky has recorded a team-high eight blocked shots. In goal, Joshua Fleming has made two starts and owns an .886 save percentage, while Ryder Fetterolf has posted a .895 save percentage in one start.

Last season, Penn State finished 21-14-2 overall and 12-10-2 in conference play. The Nittany Lions defeated Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament before falling to No. 1 Michigan. They later advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where they were eliminated by No. 6 Minnesota Duluth.

COMMON OPPONENTS
RMU and Penn State share five opponents on their 2026-27 schedules: Canisius, Niagara, Army, Sacred Heart and Wisconsin. The Colonials have already faced Wisconsin in a season-opening series, while the Nittany Lions have played Sacred Heart.
