Storey Scores Natural Hat Trick as RMU Earns First AHA Win at Lindenwood

Storey scores sixth natural hat trick in program history, Hatch records 10th career shutout and first career assist

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Behind Taylor Storey's natural hat trick and Maggie Hatch's first shutout of the season, the RMU women's hockey team earned a 4-0 victory over Lindenwood to secure its first Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) win of the season. With the victory, the Colonials improve to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

FIRST PERIOD
Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the opening 20 minutes. The Colonials successfully killed off Lindenwood's lone power-play opportunity while coming up empty on their two chances with the extra skater.

The Lions held a slight advantage in the opening frame, outshooting RMU 9-6.

SECOND PERIOD
Five minutes into the middle frame, RMU broke the scoreless tie. Following a save by Hatch, the Colonials quickly transitioned up the ice. Rio Pierre sent a pass ahead to Storey, who skated down the right wing and fired a shot past the Lindenwood netminder to give RMU a 1-0 lead.

Both teams earned another power-play opportunity midway through the period, combining for four shots on goal, but neither goaltender allowed a puck to get through.

With time winding down in the frame, Pierre found Storey on the right wing once again. The sophomore forward delivered another shot past the netminder to double the Colonials' advantage at 2-0 heading into the second intermission.

THIRD PERIOD
The Colonials faced an early challenge in the final frame, taking back-to-back penalties that gave Lindenwood a full minute of 5-on-3 power-play time. RMU successfully killed off both penalties before navigating another two-minute minor to preserve its two-goal lead.

Later in the period, the Lions found themselves in penalty trouble, giving the Colonials a 5-on-3 opportunity. Although RMU couldn't capitalize during the two-player advantage, Storey made the most of the remaining power play. From distance, she unleashed a slap shot that rang off the crossbar and into the net to complete her natural hat trick. Rowyn Ringor and Caroline Aufiero picked up the assists.

With just under four minutes remaining, Lindenwood pulled its goaltender in an attempt to get back into the contest. Ringor took advantage, firing the puck from just inside her own blue line into the empty net to put the finishing touches on RMU's 4-0 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU outshot Lindenwood 33-30, led by Storey's seven shots on goal. Storey, Pierre, Ringor and Lucy Thiessen each finished with a +3, while the Colonials' second line combined for four goals, three assists and a +9 plus/minus.

Jessica MacKinnon won a team-high 15 faceoffs as RMU blocked 14 shots. Aufiero and Kaitlyn Schooley led the way defensively with four blocks apiece.

NATURAL HAT TRICK
Storey recorded the first natural hat trick of her collegiate career, marking the 23rd hat trick and sixth natural hat trick in program history. The Waterloo, Ontario native has scored four goals and one assist over her last four games.

She joins Greta Brezenski (2026 vs. Post), Megan Picinic (2006 vs. Chatham), Amber Rennie (2017 at Minnesota State), Emilie Harley (2019 vs. Mercyhurst) and Michaela Boyle (2019 at RPI) as the sixth Colonial to accomplish the feat. This is the first time since 2019 that RMU has recorded multiple hat tricks and natural hat tricks in a season.

SHUTOUT
Hatch turned aside all 30 shots she faced to record her first shutout of the season and the 10th of her career. She becomes just the second goaltender in program history to reach double-digit career shutouts, joining Jessica Dodds (2013-17).

Hatch also picked up her first career assist, earning a secondary helper on RMU's opening goal.

TWO POINTS
Pierre recorded the first multi-point performance of her career, dishing out a pair of assists in the victory. She has now collected four assists over her last four games.

Ringor also enjoyed a multi-point outing, finishing with a goal and an assist for her first two-point game of the season and the 12th of her career. Over her last four contests, she has recorded two goals and two assists.
