INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The RMU men's soccer team battled IU Indy to a 1-1 draw Wednesday afternoon, as the Jaguars scored the equalizer on a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining. With the draw, the Colonials move to 4-4-4 overall and 1-1-3 in Horizon League play.
FIRST HALF
Senior captain
Josh Lane made the first save of the afternoon in the 10th minute before the Colonials capitalized on their first scoring opportunity four minutes later.
Following a corner kick that IU Indy was unable to clear, sophomore midfielder
Riley Cotton controlled the loose ball and fired a volley into the left side of the net to give RMU an early 1-0 advantage.
The Colonials nearly doubled their lead late in the half when Cotton found another scoring opportunity in the 43rd minute. His shot beat the IU Indy defense but struck the woodwork, keeping the Jaguars within one heading into halftime.
After 45 minutes of play, RMU held a 1-0 advantage.
SECOND HALF
The Colonials continued to create opportunities early in the second half, with sophomore midfielder
John Krug recording a pair of shots. RMU also generated several set-piece opportunities and earned multiple corner kicks but was unable to find a second goal.
In the 80th minute, Lane made another save before an IU Indy player was fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Jose Antonio Herrera converted from the penalty spot to even the score at 1-1.
Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal during the final 10 minutes, as the Colonials and Jaguars finished with a draw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
IU Indy held a 15-6 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. RMU earned 10 corner kicks compared to eight for the Jaguars. The Colonials were whistled for 11 fouls, while IU Indy was called for six.

Joaquin Fazal each played all 90 minutes for RMU. In goal, Lane finished with six saves.

RMU returns home Saturday, October 10, to host Purdue Fort Wayne at 1:00 PM at the North Athletic Complex. The match will serve as part of the Colonials' Alumni Weekend festivities and will stream live on ESPN+.
