RMU Men's Hockey Set for Final Stretch of Regular Season Schedule

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team enters the final stretch of the 2025-26 regular season this weekend with their last full road series, traveling to Buffalo, N.Y. to face Canisius for a pair of Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) contests. The series opener is scheduled for Friday, February 20 at 7:00 PM, followed by the finale on Saturday, February 21 at 4:00 PM. Both games will stream live on FloHockey.
 
RMU LATELY
RMU (10-17-3, 10-10-2 AHA) enters the weekend after splitting a home-and-home series against Niagara. In the opener in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the Colonials fell 5-2 despite strong individual performances. Michael Felsing recorded a goal and an assist, while Tanner Klimpke added a goal. Trent Wilson contributed two assists in the contest.
 
The Colonials responded in emphatic fashion in the series finale at Clearview Arena, earning a 5-1 victory behind contributions throughout the lineup. Five different players found the back of the net, including Rasmus Larsson, Cameron Garvey, Julian Beaumont, George Krotiris and Dominic Elliott. Felsing continued his productive weekend with two assists, finishing the series with four points, while Klimpke added two assists to total three points across the two games.
 
The victory featured several notable milestones. Larsson scored his first career goal, Garvey netted RMU's first shorthanded goal of the season, and Beaumont registered his first career multi-point performance with a goal and an assist. In net, sophomore Lucas Massie turned aside 32 shots to earn his fifth win of the season.
 
RMU has found its stride at an important point in the season, posting a 6-2-1 record over its last nine games. The Colonials currently sit fifth in the AHA standings as they continue to build momentum toward the postseason.
 
POINT PRODUCER
Junior captain Tanner Klimpke continues to pace the Colonials' offense, reaching the 20-point mark for the third consecutive season. He leads the team in both goals (11) and points (20) during the 2025-26 campaign.
 
Klimpke has been a consistent offensive contributor throughout his career. As a freshman, he totaled 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points, followed by 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points as a sophomore. This season, he has compiled 11 goals and nine assists.
 
The Calgary, Alberta native has accumulated 36 goals and 33 assists for 69 points in 93 career games, serving as a key leader for the Colonials.
 
ALL-TIME VS. CANISIUS
Since the program's inception in 2004-05, RMU owns a 26-15-4 record against Canisius. Earlier this season at Clearview Arena, the Colonials swept the Golden Griffins with victories of 6-4 and 1-0.
 
In the opener, Trent Wilson scored twice while Bruce McDonald added a goal and an assist. Jackson Reineke and George Krotiris each recorded two assists. In the series finale, Dominic Elliott netted the game-winning goal, and Charlie Schenkel recorded his first career shutout with 36 saves.
 
Several Colonials have enjoyed success against Canisius throughout their careers. Cameron Garvey has totaled four goals and two assists against the Golden Griffins, while Luke van Why has recorded five assists. Jackson Reineke owns one goal and four assists, Klimpke has contributed two goals and three assists, and Elliott has added two goals and two assists. RMU has won four of its last five meetings against Canisius.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius enters the weekend with a 15-13-2 overall record and a 10-10-2 mark in conference play after splitting its most recent series against Holy Cross. The Golden Griffins currently sit seventh in the AHA standings with 33 conference points.
 
Offensively, junior forward Walter Zacher leads the team with 16 goals, while senior forward Grant Porter has a team-high 18 assists and 29 points. Senior defenseman Jack Pascucci has been a key defensive presence, blocking 60 shots this season. In goal, Chase Clark has earned 10 wins while posting one shutout and a .904 save percentage.
 
UP NEXT
RMU will close out the regular season with a home-and-home series against Mercyhurst. The Colonials will host the Lakers at Clearview Arena on Friday, February 27 at 7:00 PM before traveling to Erie, Pa. for the regular season finale on Saturday, February 28 at 5:00 PM. Both games will stream live on FloHockey.
