MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team continues its opening month of the 2026 campaign this weekend, traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. for five games at the Spartan Classic/Sparkle City Invite.
 
The Colonials open play on Friday, February 20 with a doubleheader against Morgan State at 11:00 AM before facing Wofford at 4:00 PM. RMU returns to action Saturday, February 21 for another matchup with Morgan State at 11:00 AM and will immediately follow with a contest against USC Upstate at 1:30 PM. The tournament concludes Sunday, February 22 with an 11:00 AM meeting against Holy Cross.
 
Live stats will be available for all five contests. Friday's matchup against Wofford will stream live on ESPN+. Wofford will host Friday and Sunday's games, while USC Upstate will host Saturday's slate.
 
FIRST WEEK OUT
RMU (2-2) opened its season with a split at the Winthrop Invite, earning two wins over Le Moyne while falling to Kent State and Winthrop. The Colonials showcased early offensive firepower, launching eight home runs through their first four games, including a program record six in one game.
 
Junior catcher Aglaia Rudd has led the charge, hitting four home runs while posting a team-best .455 batting average, 1.962 OPS, and six RBI. Her 1.545 slugging percentage currently ranks third nationally, highlighting her dominant start at the plate.
 
Redshirt senior Courtney Poulich has provided consistent production at the top of the lineup, leading the team with seven runs scored while posting a .563 on-base percentage. First baseman Mary Brant has matched Rudd with six RBI, while shortstop Sequoia Dunlap leads the team with six hits. Freshman Alivia Hare has added speed to the lineup, going a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts.
 
In the circle, Madelyn Coleman and Kaitlyn Molitoris each earned their first victories of the season. Molitoris leads the pitching staff with 11 strikeouts, while sophomore Sammie Borrayo has been dominant in relief, tossing six scoreless innings across two appearances with five strikeouts.
 
ALL-TIME VS. MORGAN STATE
RMU holds a perfect 3-0 record against Morgan State. Their most recent meetings came at the 2005 JMU Invitational, where the Colonials earned victories of 5-3 and 14-2. Their first matchup occurred in 2001, with RMU securing an 8-0 win.
 
ALL-TIME VS. WOFFORD
The Colonials are seeking their first victory against Wofford after dropping both meetings in 2024 by scores of 3-0 and 3-2. Poulich recorded one RBI in those contests.
 
ALL-TIME VS. USC UPSTATE
RMU will also look for its first win against USC Upstate. The Spartans swept all three meetings during the 2019 Wings Etc. Classic.
 
ALL-TIME VS. HOLY CROSS
RMU has historically found success against Holy Cross, owning a 3-0 all-time record with wins of 6-4, 6-0, and 4-0 in meetings during the early 2000s.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Morgan State opens its 2026 season this weekend. In 2025, the Bears posted an 18-29 overall record with a strong 12-9 mark in MEAC play. They earned one victory in the MEAC Tournament before falling to top-seeded Howard and No. 6 seed South Carolina State.
 
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Wofford enters the weekend with a 9-1 record, having played nine of their games on home turf in South Carolina.
 
Sophomore Brianna Stanley has paced the offense with a .531 batting average, collecting 17 hits, five doubles, two home runs, and 12 RBI. Sophomore Lauren Archambault leads the team with a .655 on-base percentage, while junior Desirae Devine has scored 12 runs. In the circle, junior Abby Greenwood has anchored the pitching staff, posting four wins and a 1.33 ERA.
 
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
USC Upstate enters the weekend at 7-1 and rides a six-game winning streak. The Spartans have already produced three double-digit scoring performances this season.
 
Senior Taliyah Thomas leads the team with a .481 batting average, 13 hits, and a .533 on-base percentage. Junior Mackenzei Bernal-Mahagan has driven in 13 runs, while freshman Laney Jennings has provided power with four home runs. Senior pitcher Maddie Drerup has been effective in the circle, earning four wins with 18 strikeouts and a 2.48 ERA.
 
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross begins its 2026 campaign this weekend. In 2025, the Crusaders finished 8-37 overall and 1-17 in Patriot League play.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
Wofford has already faced Kent State, defeating the Golden Flashes twice by scores of 11-1 and 10-4. The Terriers also fell to Horizon League member IU Indy, 12-7. Both RMU and Wofford will face Western Carolina later this season, and Wofford is also scheduled to play Winthrop.
 
USC Upstate defeated Saint Francis twice (12-1, 13-2), a team RMU will face later this season. The Spartans also earned two wins over Horizon League opponent Youngstown State (9-7, 2-0). USC Upstate is also scheduled to face Western Carolina and Winthrop later this year.
 
UP NEXT
Following this weekend's tournament, RMU will have two weeks off before traveling to Cullowhee, N.C. for the Catamount Classic from March 6–8. The Colonials are scheduled to face Ohio, Western Carolina, and Penn.
