ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The RMU women's hockey team saw its season come to a close Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the Lindenwood Lions in the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Quarterfinal. The Colonials wrap up the 2025-26 campaign with a 13-21-2 overall record.
FIRST PERIOD
Neither side was able to break through during the opening 20 minutes despite RMU controlling much of the play. The Colonials dictated possession and outshot Lindenwood, 14-4, generating several quality looks in the offensive zone. Both teams were awarded one power play opportunity, but the special teams units stood tall as the game remained scoreless after one.
SECOND PERIOD
The Lions struck first just over three minutes into the middle frame, as Zsofia Pazmandi found the back of the net to give Lindenwood a 1-0 advantage.
RMU answered four minutes later. Senior
Morgan Giannone capitalized on a rebound in the blue paint, knotting the contest at 1-1.
Jessica MacKinnon and
Kaitlyn Schooley each earned assists on the play.
Before the period concluded, Lindenwood regained the lead with what proved to be the game-winning tally, coming off the stick of Silje Gundersen late in the frame.
THIRD PERIOD
With their season on the line, the Colonials pressed forward in the final stanza. RMU outshot the Lions 11-9 in the third and finished the afternoon with a commanding 32-21 edge in shots on goal. Despite the sustained pressure, the Colonials were unable to find the equalizer.
An empty-net goal with under two minutes remaining sealed the 3-1 result and sent Lindenwood on to the AHA Semifinals.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- RMU held a 32-21 advantage in shots, led by Giannone's team-high nine shots on goal.
- In the faceoff circle, MacKinnon won nine draws to pace the Colonials.
- The Colonials went 0-for-1 on the power play while successfully killing off both Lindenwood opportunities.
- Defensively, RMU blocked 18 shots, with six different players recording two blocks apiece.
- In net, Maggie Hatch turned aside 18 shots.
SIX STRAIGHT
Giannone closed her collegiate career in impressive fashion, scoring in six consecutive games to end the season. Over that stretch, she totaled nine points, including three assists.
For her career, Giannone appeared in 138 games, recording 35 goals and 35 assists for 70 points.
MACKINNON'S BREAKOUT YEAR
Sophomore
Jessica MacKinnon capped a standout season as RMU's leading point producer with 41 points. Her 26 assists are tied for the fifth-most in a single season in program history, while her 41 points are tied for seventh all-time in a single campaign.
