INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit Mercy (17-14) defeated Robert Morris (22-11) 70-64 in the semifinals of the Barbasol Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship on Monday evening at the Corteva Center.
DeSean Goode finished with 14 points and recorded 10 rebounds, leading the team in both categories.
Nikolaos Chitikoudis added 13 points and posted seven assists.
Ta'Zir Smith scored 11 points and
Ryan Prather Jr. contributed 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
1st HALF
The first half featured 10 ties and 6 lead changes as both teams traded momentum. After an 8-8 start at the first media timeout, Detroit took a 14-10 lead before the game tied again at 18-18 by the midway point. Tyler Spratt's 3-pointer at 7:56 briefly put Detroit ahead, but
Ta'Zir Smith responded with a banked triple to make the score 23-21. Following a 31-31 tie, a late 3-pointer from Brown and two free throws by Prather gave Robert Morris a 36-33 lead at halftime.
2nd HALF
After
Kaleb Brown's 3-pointer gave Robert Morris a 41-35 lead, Detroit responded with a run fueled by to pull ahead 47-43 at the 12:02 mark. UDM extended this lead to nine points by the midway point, and while RMU cut the margin to one with 40 seconds remaining, Detroit made its final six free throws to seal the victory.
UDM will face Wright State in the championship game Tuesday evening.
