HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The RMU softball team fell 12-2 in five innings at Northern Kentucky in the series opener. The Colonials move to 17-11 overall with a 5-5 mark in Horizon League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
RMU came out strong, reaching base with its first four batters of the game. After
Courtney Poulich reached on a fielding error,
Kaylyn Hopf came around to score the game's first run.
Aglaia Rudd followed with a single to center field, driving in
Eloise Facher to give the Colonials an early 2-0 lead.
Northern Kentucky responded in the bottom of the second with three runs to take the lead and maintained control the rest of the way.
The Norse added two runs in the third and broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 12-2.
In the top of the fifth, RMU threatened by loading the bases on a single from Hopf, a double by Facher, and a walk from Poulich. However, NKU recorded three consecutive outs to secure the run-rule victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- NKU outhit RMU, 10-6. Both sides committed two errors.
- Hopf and Facher paced the offense with two hits apiece. Poulich drew a walk, while Rudd recorded the team's lone RBI and added a stolen base.
- Defensively, Erynn Thompson led RMU with two assists from second base.
- In the circle, Kaitlyn Molitoris started and recorded three strikeouts over 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs. Madison Brown and Madelyn Coleman appeared in relief. They each registered one out without allowing an earned run.
