Colonials Complete Homestand Against Canisius

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team will wrap up its eight-game homestand with a final home series against Canisius on Tuesday, April 28. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00 PM, with both games streaming live on ESPN+ and commentary provided by Nathan Breisinger.
 
RMU LATELY
RMU (23-15, 8-7 #HLSB) is coming off a dominant Senior Day sweep over La Roche, outscoring the Redhawks 43-0 across two games.
 
In the series, Courtney Poulich drove in 12 runs, while Agalia Rudd and Eloise Facher each added five RBIs. Senior Katlyn Jardine also hit her first career home run. In the circle, Madelyn Coleman threw her first career no-hitter, striking out six over five innings. Sammie Borrayo followed with her fourth win of the season in game two, tossing three scoreless innings.
 
Across three games last week, freshman Marta Gualazzi appeared in all contests and posted a .667 batting average. In pinch-hit opportunities, Delaney O'Connor hit .800 (4-for-5), while Kaylyn Hopf batted .857 across the La Roche doubleheader.
 
Through 38 games this season, Rudd leads the Colonials in batting average (.548), hits (63), doubles (14), and on-base percentage (.583). She remains the only player in the country without a strikeout this season, going 115 at-bats without one. Poulich continues her historic campaign, leading the team with 22 home runs, 77 RBIs, a 1.120 slugging percentage, 63 runs scored, and a 1.682 OPS.
 
In the circle, Coleman owns a team-high seven wins, while Madison Brown leads the staff with a 4.81 ERA. Kaitlyn Molitoris has recorded a team-best 87 strikeouts. Defensively, Rudd and Hopf both hold perfect 1.000 fielding percentages without committing an error.
 
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Over 23 non-conference games, RMU has posted a 15-8 record, including a 4-1 mark at home, outscoring opponents 256-124.
 
Individually, Rudd is hitting .588 with a .608 on-base percentage and a 1.176 slugging percentage in non-conference play. Poulich has added a team-high 12 home runs and 50 RBIs while batting .500. Thirteen Colonials are hitting above .250 in non-conference action.
 
In the circle, Borrayo, Brown, and Molitoris have each recorded four wins, with Molitoris totaling 50 strikeouts over 43.0 innings.
 
CHASING HISTORY
After already breaking the program's career RBI record, Poulich is closing in on more milestones. With 127 career runs, she sits just four shy of the program record. She is also two RBIs away from surpassing the Horizon League single-season record of 78, set in 1999.
 
Rudd tied the program single-season doubles record (14) last week, matching marks set by Natalia Higgins and Olivia Lorusso in 2018.
 
As a team, the Colonials are also tracking toward record-breaking numbers. RMU has totaled 416 hits, 73 doubles, and 12 triples this season, nearing last year's program records of 431 hits, 79 doubles, and 17 triples.
 
MILESTONE WATCH
Coleman is four strikeouts away from 200 in her career, while Hopf needs seven runs to reach 100.
 
ALL-TIME VS. CANISIUS
RMU is 7-13 all-time against Canisius in a series dating back to 1992. The teams have split their last six meetings.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius (13-26, 8-15 #MAAC) enters the matchup on a four-game losing streak and currently sits 11th in the MAAC standings.
 
Junior outfielder Ella Johel leads the team across multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.370), OPS (1.060), runs (33), hits (44), doubles (9), triples (3), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.622), and on-base percentage (.438). Senior infielder Bailey Alatorre has recorded a team-high 22 RBIs. In the circle, Olivia Manchester leads the pitching staff with a 3.55 ERA, four wins, and 57 strikeouts.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
Canisius has also faced Ohio, Kent State, and Akron this season.
 
UP NEXT
RMU will close out the regular season on the road in Detroit, Mich., taking on Detroit Mercy. The series begins Friday, May 1 at 3:00 PM, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 starting at 12:00 PM. All three games will stream live on ESPN+.
