Colonials Split Canisius to Close Out Home Slate

Rudd breaks doubles record; Facher drives in career-high five runs

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Colonials delivered their largest comeback of the season in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader, erasing an eight-run deficit to earn an 11-10 extra-inning victory. Canisius responded with a 10-5 win in game two to split the series. RMU closes out its home slate and non-conference schedule at 24-16 overall, heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

GAME 1: RMU 11, Canisius 10 (8 Innings)
Canisius came out swinging, launching two home runs and building an 8-0 lead through the first four innings.

RMU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Courtney Poulich scored on a wild pitch, but the Golden Griffins answered with another run in the fifth to extend their advantage to 9-1 and put the Colonials on the brink of a run-rule decision.

Instead, RMU mounted a furious rally. Alivia Hare singled up the middle and moved into scoring position before Erynn Thompson drove her in with a two-out single through the right side. Kaylyn Hopf reached on a defensive miscue, setting the stage for Eloise Facher, who ripped an RBI double into the right-center gap. Poulich followed with an RBI single to left, trimming the deficit to 9-4 and keeping RMU alive.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the comeback surged in the seventh. Facher launched a two-run home run to spark the inning before Poulich tripled and scored on Aglaia Rudd's single down the left field line. Mary Brant then delivered a triple of her own and came all the way around to score on a throwing error, tying the game at 9-9.

With a runner put on second to start extra innings, Canisius plated a run in the top of the eighth to regain a 10-9 lead.

In the bottom half, Hopf singled to move Katlyn Jardine to third, setting up Facher once again. The junior outfielder came through in the clutch, driving a two-RBI double to right-center to walk it off and cap an improbable 11-10 victory.

GAME 2: Canisius 10, RMU 5
Canisius again struck early, scoring three runs in the opening frame, but RMU quickly responded.

Hopf reached on an error, Facher drew a walk, and Rudd singled to load the bases. Brant drove in a run with a single to center before Hare delivered a two-run single to tie the game. Freshman Delaney O'Connor followed with an RBI single through the left side to give RMU a 4-3 lead after one inning.

The Golden Griffins answered immediately, plating three runs in the second to reclaim the lead. After a quiet third inning, they added three more runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 9-4.

Canisius tacked on an unearned insurance run in the sixth to make it 10-4.

Rudd provided a late spark with a leadoff home run to left field in the seventh, but RMU could not replicate its earlier comeback, falling 10-5.
