8/9/2026 11:00:00 AM

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's soccer has unveiled its team captains for the 2026 season. Head Coach Michelle Rick has appointed seniors Ava Trethewey, Shauna Gamble and Julia Becerra to lead the Colonials.

"Ava, Shauna and Julia walk the walk," said Rick. "They raise the standard every day and bring out the best in the people around them. They lead through their play, the way they carry themselves and the example they set for others. I'm lucky to be their coach and incredibly proud of their growth and we're excited to see them lead this group together."

Trethewey, a native of Charleston, W.Va., is coming off a breakout season in which she ranked second in the Horizon League with nine goals in 2025. She led RMU in both goals and points (20) while ranking fifth in the conference in points per game (1.18). Since joining the Colonials in 2024, Trethewey has earned All-Horizon League honors in each of her first two seasons.

"Being named a captain is an incredible honor, and I'm excited for the opportunity to lead this team," said Trethewey. "I'm looking forward to supporting my teammates, setting the standard through my actions and helping create an environment where everyone can grow and succeed. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together this year!"

Gamble, a native of Palm Springs, Calif., has been a staple on RMU's back line since the beginning of her collegiate career. Last season, she started all 17 matches and led the team with 1,529 minutes played. She earned All-Horizon League Third Team honors in 2025 after previously being named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2023, when she recorded one goal and two assists in the playoffs.

"I'm incredibly excited to lead this team alongside my fellow captains and help set the standard for hard work, accountability and unity," said Gamble. "We have a special group of players, and I can't wait to see what we accomplish together this season."

Becerra, a native of Corona, Calif., has also been a key contributor since arriving in Moon Township, providing stability in RMU's midfield throughout her career. She has helped lead the Colonials to two Horizon League semifinal appearances while logging more than 2,800 minutes across 49 career matches.

"I'm very honored to have been named a captain and grateful for the trust my teammates and coaches have put in me," said Becerra. "I'm excited for the opportunity to lead this team and see how we can keep growing and pushing each other every day."

After completing the preseason, RMU opens the 2026 season on Wednesday, August 12, with a 5:00 PM match at Navy in Annapolis, Md.
