MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Julia Becerra's game-winning goal in the second half lifted RMU to a 1-0 victory over UMBC Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Colonials finish non-conference play with a 3-3-1 overall record.
FIRST HALF
Through the first 45 minutes of play, most of the action took place in the midfield as neither side was able to break through offensively.
Sophia Cucchetti recorded the first shot on goal of the game in the 21st minute, while UMBC's lone shot on goal came in the 34th minute. After the opening 45 minutes, the game remained scoreless.
SECOND HALF
Entering the second half, play started to open up with both teams creating more chances.
Ivy Chaskelson fired two well-struck shots from distance that were saved, while
Madison Sievering was stopped on a breakaway in the 68th minute.
Finally, in the 75th minute, the Colonials broke through. Following a corner kick, RMU played the ball short, with Sievering finding
Ava Trethewey. Trethewey sent a cross into the box, where
Julia Becerra finished the chance to give the Colonials the lead.
UMBC recorded one more shot attempt following the goal, but the Retriever attack was stymied by RMU's defense as the Colonials secured a 1-0 victory to close out non-conference play.

- RMU outshot UMBC, 9-5, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Sievering recorded a team-high three shots.
- The Retrievers earned six corner kicks, while the Colonials had five.
- UMBC was called for six fouls, while RMU was whistled for four. Neither side received a yellow card.
- Shauna Gamble, Bailey Campbell, Alyssa Mella, Julia Becerra, Morgan Gesinski, Sophia Cucchetti, Ava Trethewey and Madison Sievering played all 90 minutes of the match.
THREE CLEAN SHEETS IN A ROW
Backed by senior goalkeeper
Emma Cameron's four saves, the Colonials recorded their third consecutive clean sheet. RMU and Cameron are now riding a shutout streak of 281 minutes.
The last time the Colonials recorded three consecutive shutouts was at the start of the 2023 season, when RMU defeated VMI, Hampton and Akron to open the campaign. That team went on to record a shutout streak of 357 minutes.

Becerra has appeared in 56 games for RMU, logging more than 3,300 minutes while recording three career assists.
