MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team begins Horizon League play this Wednesday, September 9, traveling to Detroit, Mich., to take on Detroit Mercy at 3:00 PM. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
 
RMU LATELY
RMU (3-1-1) is coming off a 2-0 victory at St. Bonaventure, where Anelson Azard scored his first two goals as a Colonial and Filip Jeppesen recorded his first assist of the season. In net, Josh Lane recorded his second shutout of the season, making two saves in the victory.
 
After dropping their season opener, the Colonials are riding a four-game unbeaten streak, outscoring their opponents 6-2 during that stretch. Through five games, RMU has received contributions throughout its lineup, with six different players finding the back of the net and 12 different Colonials recording at least one point.
 
Freshman Joaquin Fazal leads the Colonials with 10 shots, while defender Abdul Kamara has played all 450 minutes this season. In goal, senior Josh Lane has earned three victories and recorded two clean sheets.
 
ALL-TIME VS. DETROIT MERCY
RMU is 2-2-3 all-time against Detroit Mercy. The Colonials have recorded shutouts in four of the seven meetings, including a 4-0 victory over the Titans last season.
 
Former RMU captain Fabian Overkamp led the way in that contest, scoring two goals and adding an assist. His performance earned him a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week and Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors. Sophomore Matthew Eckersall also recorded an assist in the victory.
 
The Colonials are 2-1-1 against the Titans at home and 0-1-1 in Detroit. RMU will be looking for its first victory on the road against Detroit Mercy.
 
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy (1-3-1) enters Wednesday's matchup following a 2-1 loss to local rival Duquesne. The Titans scored in the 88th minute but were unable to find an equalizer.
 
Through five games, Detroit Mercy has scored in every match. Junior midfielder Johnny Strickler leads the Titans with four goals, while sophomore forward Thero Mitchell III has recorded a team-high three assists. In goal, junior Colin Monroe has been the primary starter, recording one win and one shutout while making seven saves across three appearances.
 
Last season, Detroit Mercy finished 5-10-3 overall and 2-5-2 in Horizon League play.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
Outside of conference play, both RMU and Detroit Mercy have Duquesne, Dayton and Mercyhurst on their schedule this season.
