Robert Morris University head football coach
John Banaszak announced the hiring of
Codi Casper as an assistant coach in September 2015. Casper assists
Bill Hurley with defensive backs and focuses on the safeties.
Â
The RMU secondary was strong with Casper’s help in 2015 as two Colonials, corner Marcelis Branch and safety Andy Smigiera took home All-NEC awards. Robert Morris allowed opponents to complete only 50.2% of their passes in 2015, a mark nearly 11% below the national median and the best such mark by a Colonial team in nine years. The Colonials limited foes to just 11.6 yards per completion, the second best mark in program history, and only 5.8 yards per attempt, a mark which led the league. The Colonials ranked among the top two in the league, and among the top 20 nationally, in both fewest passing yards allowed and passing efficiency defense. In fact, Robert Morris allowed a league-low 138.5 passing yards per game in conference play, a mark which was 24.7 yards clear of the second-place team.
Â
Casper played at strong safety for Robert Morris from 2011-14. During the 2015 Robert Morris All-Sports Banquet, Casper was bestowed a Strength & Conditioning Student-Athlete of the Year award. The award is given annually to one male and one female across all of RMU’s intercollegiate athletics teams as chosen by the strength & conditioning staff.
Â
A native of Carrollton, Ohio, Casper still ranks sixth all-time in tackles at Carrollton High School with 172. He also holds the school record for single-season fumble recoveries for Carrollton with seven.

Casper earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Robert Morris in 2015.
