Kevin Sonnie is in his first season as the tight ends coach at Robert Morris University.

Sonnie spent the last two seasons as the wide receivers coach and video coordinator at Gannon University in Erie, Pa. In 2015, he coached receiver Jesstin Hamm who recorded the third-highest single-season reception total with 63. In 2014, Sonnie was a student assistant receivers coach at Edinboro (Pa.) University after a four-year playing career with the Fighting Scots. His duties included a variety of skills such as film breakdown, opponent statistical analysis, game plans, coaching, recruiting, scout teams and academic progress monitoring.

The Chesterland, Ohio, native was a two-year starter at wide receiver in 2012 and 2013. After redshirting his first year and missing his sophomore year with an injury, Sonnie saw action in 16 games during his final two seasons. He started nine contests as a junior, finishing as the team’s third-leading receiver with 30 receptions for 339 yards and two touchdowns. Sonnie had 11 receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns during his final campaign despite missing five games with an injury.

Sonnie was named Edinboro’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012. A PSAC Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, he served on the Fighting Scots’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Sonnie graduated from Edinboro in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a 3.02 cumulative grade point average.
