Covering all areas and facets of the game, Schooley also welcomes Anders Lempia as the video & analytics coordinator. This will be Lempia's first season with the Colonials for the 2023-24 campaign.
A native of Illinois, Lempia graduated this past May with a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics at the University of Pittsburgh. He also owns a Level One USA Hockey coaching certification.
This past year with the Pitt Men’s ACHA D1 Hockey team, Lempia was one of the assistant coaches as well as the data analyst for the Panthers. He tracked game events and used the resulting date to build models to be easily accessible for the coaching staff and players to review. During games and practices, he assisted in lineup construction, deployment and player development.
Lempia arrives with experience with R programming languages and Sportlogiq play-by-play data for statistical modeling, analysis and visualization. His success in analytics was put on display in 2022 at the women’s hockey date competition. Lempia was named runner-up in the student category at the 2022 Big Data Cup.
In his playing days, from 2019 to 2022, Lempia was a defenseman for the ACHA D1 team. And, growing up in Illinois, he spent nine years playing youth hockey at the varsity, junior varsity, AA gold and B level.
“Anders has a unique perspective on hockey as a former player who is now doing high level analytics projects and competing in hockey data competitions,” said head coach Derek Schooley.
