Kris Alleyne enters his fourth season as the defensive coordinator for the Colonials in the 2025 season.
In his first season, Alleyne led the top man-down defense in the ASUN, with his unit ranking 10th in the nation in the category. Additionally, he mentored the dynamic goalie unit of Nate Randall and Ben Savick in the 2022 season, who posted an 8-1 record in ASUN play. Randall's was tabbed to the 2022 All-Freshman Team finishing the season ranked 18th in the country in goals against average and 23rd in save percentage. Additionally, Owen Down was named to the ASUN All-Conference Second Team after finishing 0th in the ASUN in caused turnovers per game (1.06). With strong defense against Air Force and Utah, the Colonials claimed the 2022 ASUN crown in Alleyne’s first season with the program.Â
In his second season with the Colonials, Alleyne led a goalie trio of Randall, Kyle Reihner and Liam Rosenthal. Across the season, Randall earned Defensive Player of the Week honors once by the ASUN and in Reihner's first start for RMU, he posted one of the best goalkeeping performances in program history, recording 20 saves, which is the third-most saves in program history.Â
Over the 2023 campaign, the goalies combined for a 11.75 G.A.A. and collected 207 total saves. Alleyne and his squad made it to the ASUN Championship, defeating Jacksonville in the first round, 9-8. Long-stick midfielder James Christoforatos was also named to the ASUN All-Academic Team and later achieved College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-American Third-Team honors. This was the first time in program history a student-athlete earned the award.
In 2024, goalkeeper Nate Fechter, Gavin Pedone and defender Owen Tapper were named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team. Fechter finished tied for 3rd in the conference with 174 saves, seventh with an 11.60 GAA and was 12th with a .485 save percentage while Tapper was 10th in the ASUN with 1.18 caused turnovers per contest and Pedon scooped up 26 ground balls
RMU also developed more players to the professional level. After the 2023 school year ended, five different Colonials entered the National Lacrosse League (NLL): Taggart Clark, Owen Down, Matt Duncan, Colton Lidstone and Will Johansen.Â
Alleyne, spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach at NJIT, helping the Highlanders earn their first America East victory in program history. Prior to joining the NJIT coaching staff, Alleyne spent two years as an assistant coach at Canisius, where he tutored the goaltenders and assisted with game planning and recruiting. While an assistant with the Golden Griffins, Alleyne assisted in the development of goalkeeper Brad Nordstrom, who helped Canisius rank 17th in NCAA Division I in scoring defense by allowing an average of 10.17 goals per contest.
In 2020, Alleyne was named a finalist for the David Huntley MLL Man of the Year Award. It's one of the most prestigious honors in the sport of lacrosse, in honor of late MLL head coach David Huntley. It recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, professionalism and service to his community.Â
Prior to his coaching career, Alleyne was a 2016 seventh-round draft pick of the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. He played for the Rattlers during the 2017 season, recording a season-high 15 saves in his debut against the Florida Launch. He returned to the MLL as a member of the Dallas Rattlers for the 2019 season and the Connecticut Hammerheads in 2020.Â
A 2016 graduate of Rutgers with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, Alleyne was a four-year letterwinner for the Scarlet Knights. As a freshman, Alleyne, a native of New City, N.Y., was named the 2013 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year as well as earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team. He appeared in 53 career games at Rutgers in goal, recording a goals against average of 10.40, a .522 save percentage and 545 saves, which ranks fifth all-time in program history.
