Tim Cox enters his second season as an assistant coach with the men's lacrosse team.

In September of 2016, head coach Andrew McMinn offered Cox his first full-time coaching position after Cox spent one year as a volunteer assistant with his alma mater, the University of Albany.

In 2016, Cox helped the Great Danes compile a 12-4 overall record and a spotless 6-0 mark in America East action. Albany earned an at-large berth into the 2016 NCAA Tournament, where they narrowly fell to #6/4 Syracuse in the First Round, 11-9.

Under the guidance of 2016 America East Coach of the Year Scott Marr, Cox and the Albany coaching staff produced five All-America East First Team selections, including 2016 Tewaaraton nominee and America East Defensive Player of the Year, Blaze Riorden. Additionally, one Great Dane was named to the Second Team, while three were selected to the All-Rookie Team, and three earned All-Academic recognition.

Marr, Cox and company coached UAlbany to a No. 4 ranking in the USILA Coaches Poll and Inside Lacrosse Cascade/Maverick Media Poll, the highest ranking for the team since 2007. The 2016 season marked the Great Danes’ fourth consecutive perfect America East regular season.

A former standout Great Dane midfielder, Cox led UAlbany to three America East Tournament titles and a pair of NCAA Tournament victories.

Cox collected America East All-Conference Second Team accolades while wearing the captain’s “C” in 2015. He finished his career with 40 goals and 12 assists for 52 points, adding 55 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. In his senior season, he recorded at least one point in 16 of 19 games played.

Cox graduated from UAlbany in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in communications and a minor in business.
