Liam Cavanagh is in his second season with the Robert Morris University women’s ice hockey team as the Director of Hockey Operations.
Cavanagh graduated from Acadia University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing. During his time at Acadia University, Cavanagh studied abroad at UMass Boston in a partnership program from 2015-2017.
At UMass Boston, he was the Director of Hockey Operations for the Beacons Division III men’s hockey program for those two seasons. During the 2015-16 season, Cavanagh was part of the staff that helped UMass Boston to its first conference regular season and tournament titles since 1982 and the program’s first NCAA Frozen Four appearance. Cavanagh also produced promotional materials to elevate the profile of UMass Boston men’s ice hockey and was part of the Beacons bench staff.
Prior to studying abroad at UMass, Cavanagh was a goaltender for Charles P. Allen High School and with junior programs in the NSJHL, such as the Valley Maple Leafs and the Cole Harbour Colts. His coaching career began in 2009 with Finn-Goaltending, a group that provides training for goaltenders, where he learned coaching skills, drill development, and evaluation.
A native of Nova Scotia, Cavanagh was also the founder and CEO of apparel company Flo Hockey, a clothing company that focused on charitable efforts rather than profit-making. He also participated in similar efforts as a volunteer with the Boys & Girls Club and Special Olympics, while attending UMass Boston.
Currently, Cavanagh is working to earn his Master’s degree in Data Analytics while at Robert Morris University. In his spare time, Cavanagh promotes awareness of mental health issues in intercollegiate sports and co-hosts a podcast, 'Never Give Up Radio,' that focuses on such issues.
