Brianna Murgi was named assistant coach for the Colonials in June of 2022. She's currently in her second season at RMU.
"I'm excited for Bri to be joining the coaching staff," RMU head coach Chris Shaw said. "She is both enthusiastic and hard-working and will be a great asset to both the RMU women's soccer program and the University."
In her first year as assistant coach, Murgi helped recruit an impressive group of freshmen into the program. At seasons end, Malia Kearns was named to the #HLWSOC All-Freshman team. For the first eight games of the 2022 campaign, her squad leaped out to a 5-0-3 start.
From the Pittsburgh area, Murgi helped recruit several players from the WPIAL scene. Scouting home grown talent, she brought in players from her alma mater Upper Saint Clair and other schools in the Pittsburgh area.
Murgi, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., joined RMU after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. In her two seasons in New Wilmington, Pa., the Titans posted an overall record of 22-5-2 (.793). Murgi assisted in recruiting 17 student-athletes to the program, including forward Brooke Horvath, who was named the 2021 PAC Newcomer of the Year. Westminster claimed the 2021 PAC regular-season championship with a perfect 9-0 mark and overall last season finished 16-3-1 (.825) while earning a bid to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.
"I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to coach women's soccer at RMU in my hometown of Pittsburgh," Murgi said. "I would like to thank Coach Shaw for having me join the coaching staff, as I know that I will learn a lot from him that will help me improve my coaching abilities. I'm looking forward to continuing my collegiate coaching career at a university that values a positive student-athlete experience."
A four-year starter at Wheeling Jesuit University from 2016-19, Murgi started all but three games during her career with the Cardinals. She logged over 5,600 minutes on the backline and was named captain her junior season in 2018. Murgi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science with a minor in psychology from Wheeling Jesuit in 2020, and in 2022 she earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Westminster.
Murgi also owns extensive club and camp coaching experience, having served as the 2003/2004 Girls Head Coach for Century Steel Soccer since 2020 as well as the 2006 Girls Assistant Coach. She has also served as assistant coach for the Century United Women's Premier Soccer League Team since January of 2021. During her prep career, Murgi won a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class AAA state championship in 2015 with Upper St. Clair after finishing as a Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) finalist and earning all-section honors.
