Ron Newton is in his fourth season with the Colonials as a volunteer assistant coach in 2024-25.
Newton owns 11 years of coaching experience in track & field, working with athletes of various ages while being considered one of the top sprint youth coaches in Western Pennsylvania. During his time at RMU, Newton has been instrumental in assisting the enhancement of the sprinters for the Colonials, as the 4x100-meter relay and 60-meter dash school records have both been broken under his tutelage.
In 2021, Newton, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, founded El1te Spr1nt Athlet1cs, which has gained national recognition by producing five All-American youth athletes competing in various events such as the 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter, 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter and 4x400-meter relay. Newton has designed and implemented effective sprint and hurdles workouts, utilizing mindful tactics for motivating student-athletes to achieve exceptional individual and team performances. Newton has specifically coordinated a relay handoff technique that has helped teams win multiple championships in both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay.
Newton competed soccer at the NCAA Division II level after a prep career in which he played both soccer and competed in track & field in Jamaica.
