Sarah Doherty enters her second season as the Director of Volleyball Operations at Robert Morris University, bringing over 20 years of elite competitive and coaching experience to the Colonials’ staff.
A mainstay in the RMU volleyball community, Sarah’s current tenure marks her second major stint with the program. She previously served as an assistant coach for the Colonials from 2010 to 2013, a period defined by sustained success where she helped guide the team to four consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament appearances and two trips to the NEC Finals (2010, 2011). She returned to the RMU sideline as an assistant from 2022 to 2024 before transitioning into her current leadership role in operations.
Sarah’s coaching pedigree is remarkably diverse, spanning the collegiate and club ranks. In addition to a 13-year tenure with Pittsburgh Elite VBC, she served as a coach for the United States Air Force indoor and sand volleyball programs in 2010. Her developmental roots also include impactful seasons with Renaissance Cleveland and Summit VBC.
As a student-athlete, Sarah was a dominant force in the Western Reserve Conference at Solon High School, where she was a four-time conference champion and an All-District selection. She began her collegiate playing career at Ashland University, competing in the 2005 NCAA Division II Tournament, before transferring to Kent State University. At Kent State, she was a key contributor in the MAC Tournament while earning her undergraduate degree in business management.
A proud alumna of both her coaching stops, Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science from Kent State University and an M.B.A. from Robert Morris University.
