Freshman pitcher Laura Coulter is one of two softball players to garner the final Giant Eagle RMU Female Student-Athlete of the honor of the 2015-16 academic year. In the 2016 Northeast Conference Tournament in Brooklyn, N.Y., last weekend, Coulter appeared in four games, including a pair of starts, and went 1-0 from the circle, producing an 0.79 earned run average (ERA) after allowing just two earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched. She struck out 14 and walked just three. In an elimination game against Bryant (5/13), Coulter got the start and allowed just three hits in five innings while not yielding an earned run. She entered RMU’s elimination contest later in the day against Saint Francis U. (5/13) in the 10th inning, working six shutout innings, allowing just a pair of hits and striking out a career-high 10. Coulter, a native of Banora Point, Australia, picked up a victory in another must-win contest for RMU, holding LIU Brooklyn (5/14) to one run on four hits in 5.1 innings in a 3-1 win. For her efforts, Coulter was named to the 2016 All-NEC Tournament Team.Â
