Senior guard Karvel Anderson of the men’s basketball team earns his second Higher Images RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2013-14 campaign after helping lead the Colonials to a 2-0 start in Northeast Conference play last week. A native of Elkhart, Ind., Anderson averaged 34.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in road victories at Sacred Heart (1/9/14) and Bryant (1/11/14). In a 79-70 win over the Pioneers to open league play, Anderson scored a career-high 36 points on 15-of-19 shooting from the floor, including 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. Two days later, he scored a game-high 32 points in a 71-67 victory over the Bulldogs, including the final nine points of the contest. His jumper with 38 seconds to play against Bryant snapped a 67-67 tie, and his pair at the free-throw line helped seal the victory. For his efforts, Anderson was tabbed the Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week (1/13/14) as well as the College Sports Madness Mid-Major Men’s Basketball Player of the Week (1/13/14).
