The 2014-15 campaign marks the ninth season for Midge McPhail as the head coach of the RMU women's rowing program.
Prior to her appointment with the Colonials, McPhail spent five seasons at Ohio State University as both the head women’s novice coach and an assistant varsity coach. In 2006, she assisted a Buckeye squad that claimed both the Big Ten and Central Regional championships.
As head novice coach at Ohio State, McPhail guided both the first and second novices to second-place finishes at the 2005 Big Ten Championships. In 2002 and 2004, OSU’s first novice boats claimed first at the Central Regional championships, while her 2003 and 2005 squads were medalists. In 2002, McPhail led the first novice eight to both regional and Big Ten championships as the boat finished with a record of 24-3.
A 2000 graduate of Ohio State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, McPhail served as team captain of the Buckeyes for the 1999-2000 campaign, a year that saw the program make its first trip to the NCAA championships. She served as the six seat of the second varsity boat that placed ninth at the 2000 championships.
As a junior in 1998-99, McPhail rowed in the second varsity eight boat as the six seat, and during her sophomore campaign in 1997-98 she was the four seat of an undefeated second novice eight team.
