Colonials Dominate Quinnipiac on Senior Day

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team defeated Quinnipiac, 3-0 (30-21, 30-18, 30-20), in the teams final home match of the 2006 season. RMU improves its record to 14-14 overall and 4-2 in the NEC for the season, while the Bobcats dropped to 1-27 and 1-5 in the NEC.

Senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) tallied eight kills on 15 attempts for a .533 hitting percentage, while also finishing with two digs, two total blocks and one service ace. Senior opposite Lisa Jaszka (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) finished with five digs, three kills, three service aces and one block assist, while senior middle blocker / outside hitter Le'Sheala Dawson (San Diego, Calif. / University City) tallied three kills, three block assists and one dig.

Junior outside hitter Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) led the Colonial offensive attack with 12 kills on 27 attempts for a .296 hitting percentage. Stambaugh also tallied four digs and two block assists. Junior middle blocker Haley Schroeder (Kenmore, N.Y. / Kenmore West) and sophomore outside hitter / opposite Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) both finished with five kills for RMU. Schroeder also tallied three block assists, while Lee recorded four digs and two block assists.

Sophomore Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) paced the Colonial defense by tallying six digs along with one service ace. Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) dished out a match high 25 assists to go along with four digs, one kill and one block assist, while sophomore setter Melissa Thompson (Marysville, Wash. / Marysville Pilchuck) came off the bench to dish out 13 helpers along with three kills and one block assist.

RMU heads to the road next weekend to try and secure a spot in the NEC Tournament. The Colonials first head to Wagner on Nov. 11 for a Noon start, then close out the season at Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
