RMU Opens 2006-07 Season with 6-1 Win Over Red Flash

The Robert Morris University men's tennis team opened its 2006 fall season Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis (Pa.) at the North Athletic Complex. The victory improves the Colonials to 1-0 on the 2006-07 season as RMU garnered victories at each of the top five singles flights and two of the three doubles spots.

A pair of freshmen came through for Robert Morris in its first match of the season, as at No. 1 singles Sean Curley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) garnered a 7-6, 4-6 and 6-4 victory over Andre Sandu, while David Pinto (Burlington, Ontario / Burlington) downed Jordan Kowalski at the No. 3 flight, 6-4 and 6-2.

At No. 2 singles junior Nick Paganetti (The Woodlands, Texas / McCullough) downed Kyle Primeau, 6-0 and 6-0, while junior Cyrus Manouchehrian (Toronto, Canada / Toronto) garnered a 6-4, 6-7 and 10-5 win over Jeffrey Seevers at the No. 4 singles flight. Rounding out the singles victories for RMU was senior T.J. Delorie (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township), who downed Ajay Nune, 7-6 and 6-3, at No. 5.

In doubles play Curley teamed with Delorie to down Kowalski and David Kirby, 8-4, at No. 2, while Pinto and Yokitis claimed an 8-2 win over Nune and Tyler Jones at the No. 3 flight.

Robert Morris is next in action when Sunday, Sept. 17, when it travels to Carnegie Mellon to face off with not only the host Tartans but Duquesne, as well. Match time against CMU is slated for 9:00 a.m.
