Colonials Blank Bemidji State, 1-0

Box Score

Grand Rapids, Minn. / IRA Civic Center ? The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team got back to their winning ways Saturday night, as the Colonials blanked the Bemidji State Beavers, 1-0, en route to a split of the two-game series and their first-ever victory over a WCHA team.

The Colonials (6-7-1) didn't need much offense to tame the Beavers as freshman Daneca Butterfield (Kronau, Saskatchewan / Notre Dame Hounds) was up to the task, making 27 saves to earn her first collegiate shut-out and second win of the season.

Both teams played a solid defensive game, but after a costly five-minute checking from behind penalty by Bemidji State in the second period, the door was wide open for the Colonials.

Sophomore Mallory Giambra (Rochester, N.Y. / Rochester Edge) gave Robert Morris the go-ahead goal midway through the second period. Set-up by freshman Kylie Rossler (Regina, Saskatchewan / Regina Rebels), Giambra was able to buy herself enough room to rip the game-winning goal past Bemidji goaltender Emily Brookshaw at 12:44.

The score marked the Colonials' third power-play goal in just two-days as they converted, 3-15, for the series. The RMU penalty kill, which has been stellar throughout the season, held Bemidji, 0-2, on the man-advantage.

Robert Morris was out-shot for only the second time this month as the Beavers held a 27-25 edge.

The Colonials head back up north this weekend for the conclusion of a six-game road trip this as they take on Brown University on Friday, Nov. 23, and Providence College on Sunday, Nov. 25. Game times are set for 2:00 p.m.
