Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team fell to Quinnipiac, 4-2, Friday night at the RMU Island Sports Center. The Colonials fall to 6-6-1 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 7-5-2 on the season.
The Colonials jumped out to an early, 1-0, lead after freshman Denny Urban (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ohio Blue Jackets) tallied his second goal of the season. The tally was unassisted as Urban fired the puck past Quinnipiac goalie Bud Fisher just 1:06 into the first session. The Bobcats struck back just 23 seconds later when Eric Lampe scored off passes from Mike Atkinson and Brett Dickinson.
The Bobcats took a, 2-1, lead with a power-play goal late in the second period. Ben Nelson scored for Quinnipiac, with just 1:33 left in the period, Bryan Leitch and Zach Hanson picked up the assists on the play. The Bobcat goal came just 1:13 after Fisher stopped Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms) on his door step, keeping the score tied at, 1-1.
The Colonials allowed a pair of third period goals falling behind, 4-1. Atkinson and David Marshall tallied the goals for Quinnipiac. Longpre got the Colonials to within two with a goal at the 9:07 mark of the third frame, Jason Towsley (LaSalle, Ontario / Leamington Flyers) and David Boguslawski (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Tri-City Storm) tallied the assists on the play.
For the game, senior Christian Boucher (Orleans, Ontario / Cumberland Grads) made 31 saves on 35 shots. Fisher stopped 26-of-28 shots faced for the Bobcats.
RMU went 0-for-5 on the power-play, while Quinnipiac converted on 1-of-4 power-play chances. The Bobcats outshot RMU 35-28.
The two teams return to action Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Island Sports Center. Face-off is at 7:35 p.m.
