Colonials Drop Second Straight to Quinnipiac

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats for the second straight night. The, 5-1, loss dropped the Colonials to 6-7-1 on the season, while the Bobcats are now 8-5-2 overall.

RMU fell behind early in the first period after a Greg Holt goal at the 4:11 mark, beating goalie Wes Russell (Springfield, Ill. / Quinnipiac) on a partial breakaway. Dan LeFort picked up the assist on the play. Dan Travis made the score, 2-0, in favor of the Bobcats with 3:16 remaining in the period with his third goal of the season on the power-play. Ben Nelson tallied an assist on the goal.

Quinnipiac extended their lead to, 4-0, just 1:50 into the second session, with both goals coming 47 seconds apart. Nelson and Eric Lampe tallied the goals for the Bobcats, with Nelson's coming on the power-play. The Colonials got on the board at the 14:36 mark, with both teams skating 4-on-4. Jeff Gilbert (Barrie, Ontario / Aurora Tigers) took a pass from Sean Berkstresser (Apollo, Pa. / Pittsburgh Forge) scoring from the right face dot. Ryan Cruthers (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Army) also picked up an assist on the play.

The Colonials and freshman goalie Jim Patterson (Kamloops, B.C. / Canmore Eagles) held the Bobcats off the board in the third period, but where unable to score themselves, before Lampe netted his second goal of the night into an empty net with 53 seconds left in the game.

Patterson stopped all nine shots he faced after entering the game after the Bobcats fourth goal of the night, playing 37:20. Russell took the loss, allowing four goals on 14 shots. Peter Vetri made 31 saves on 32 shots, picking up the win for Quinnipiac.

The Colonials outshot the Bobcats, 32-24 but went 0-for-4 on the power-play.

The Colonials return to action next week as they travel to Huntsville, Ala. for a two-game series with Alabama-Huntsville on Dec. 17-18.
