Three Colonials Crowned Champions at 2007 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Landover, Md. - The Robert Morris University men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up their seasons this weekend at the 2007 Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, Md. The Colonials placed fifth on the men's side while the women captured seventh in the two-day event.

Monmouth University claimed the overall men's championship for the third consecutive year while Long Island University won the overall women's championship for the second year in a row. Complete standings are listed at the bottom of the page.

Senior Josh Ghaly (Oakdale, Pa. / West Allegheny), Senior Jeff Witmyer (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) and Senior Brittany Humphress (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Falls) were all crowned NEC Champions. Ghaly set a height of 15'5” in the men's pole vault while Witmyer set a new NEC conference record in the men's high jump with a season-best mark of 6'11.50”. Humphress finished with her season-best in the women's triple jump with a distance of 38'4”.

On the men's side, Junior C.J. Ecalono (Monrovia, Md. / Urbana) finished first in his section in the men's 200-meter dash, marking a time of 22.71 for fourth overall while Senior Tyler Zimmerman (Sugarcreek, Oh. / Garaway) wrapped up an impressive performance in the men's 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth overall in the standings with a time of 8.65.

For the men's freshmen, Anthony Trunzo (Trafford, Pa. / Penn-Trafford) attempted his first men's pole vault event this season, finishing the event third overall with a height of 14'9”. Nasim Siddeeq (New Hampton, N.Y. / Goshen Central) set his season-best distance in the men's triple jump with a jump of 48'8.75”, good enough for second place in the event.

On the women's half of the event, Junior Nicole Carter (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) and Junior Corina Campbell (Smithburg, Md. / Smithburg) led the way for the track core. Carter finished sixth overall in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.30, a season-best, while Campbell grabbed the third best time overall in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 8.90 for a season-best time as well.

Along with Humphress, Freshman Sara Scott (State College, Pa. / State College) and Junior Jordhanna White (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) displayed their season-best performances in the triple jump finishing back-to-back with marks of 37'3.25” and 36'2.75”.

Several members of the track and field team will prepare to compete at the IC4A / ECAC championships next month in Boston, Mass., while the rest of the squads move forward to the start of the outdoor season, beginning on March 23, at the University of North Carolina ? Wilmington Meet.

Complete Standings for the women were as follows: Long Island (129), Monmouth (127), Saint Francis (Pa.) (102), Quinnipiac (62), Sacred Heart (61.5), Mount St. Mary's (54), Robert Morris (45), Wagner (30.5), St. Francis (N.Y.) (21), Central Conn. State (18) and Fairleigh Dickinson (13).
