Women's Lacrosse Stays Perfect In NEC Play, Defeats Central Connecticut, 18-7

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team kept their unbeaten streak in the Northeast Conference intact as they breezed by the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, 18-7, at Joe Walton Stadium this afternoon.

The Colonials (5-5, 2-0 NEC) registered seven players with multi-goal games including Sophomore Kara Blakeley (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) and Junior Josephine Zizic (Chicago, Ill. / Culver Academy) who each netted a hat-trick in the victory while adding an assist each for a combined eight points.

Sophomore Jillian Howley (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport), Sophomore Emily Tomlinson (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield), Sophomore Ashley Levering (Glenwood, Md. / Glenelg) and Freshman Courtney Borsody (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) each tallied three points with two goals and an assist.

Sophomore Jenn Collins (Edgewater, Md. / South River) picked up two goals while Freshman Ali Gibbons (Candia, NH / Machester) scored a goal and an assist and Sophomore Bethany Mahaffey (Edgewater, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian) nabbed a goal.

Juniors Brittanny Smith (Owen Sound, Ontario / West Hill Secondary) and Morgan Boseman (Springfield, Va. / Robert E. Lee) picked up helpers in the game.

After spending the past month on the road, the Colonial offense seemed pretty happy to be back home as they unleashed 33 of their 55 total shots in the first half to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.

The game slowed down in the second half after RMU extended their lead with two scores to open the frame. Tomlinson and Collins tallied back-to-back goals at 26:56 and 17:59 before CCSU would answer back with their only consecutive goals of the game at 16:56 and 13:16, both by Abby Hayes who led Central Connecticut with three goals in the game.

Behind two sets of back-to-back goals by Blakeley and Zizic, the Colonials outscored the Blue Devils, 6-2, in the final twelve minutes of the game en route to their first victory at home this season.

Robert Morris saw another solid performance by Freshman Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) in goal this afternoon as she made nine saves with five goals allowed in her 52:16 of play. Junior Lauren Hartsfield (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) wrapped up the game with two saves and two goals allowed.

As well out-shooting Central Connecticut, 55-19, Robert Morris held the advantage in draw controls, 18-9, and in ground balls, 16-9.

The Colonials look to stay perfect in conference play this Sunday, April 1, as they host Quinnipiac at Joe Walton Stadium. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
