MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The RMU women's lacrosse 2026 season came to an end with a 14-5 loss to UMass in the 2026 MAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Semifinals at Joe Walton Stadium. The Colonials finish the season with a 6-12 overall record and a 3-4 conference record.
FIRST HALF
UMass started off the contest fast and often, quickly finding themselves up 8-0 before the Colonials finally struck in the second quarter with 14 seconds left, as Lea Otts scored off an assist from Mia Berthoff to make it 8-1 going into halftime. During the first half, UMass held the Colonials to just five shots, with four coming on goal. In goal, Lucy Carney put up seven saves in the first 30 minutes.
SECOND HALF
The Colonials opened up the third quarter with back-to-back goals with Mia Berthoff scoring unassisted at 11:14, to notch her 100th career point as a Colonial, and make the score 8-2. Taylor Cadeau got the Colonials their third goal of the contest, finding the back of the net at 2:31 to make it 8-3. The Minutewomen closed out the third quarter with a goal at 1:06 to make it 9-3.
The fourth quarter started with Berthoff scoring her second goal of the game, to cut the Minutewomen's lead down to five, with UMass leading 9-4 with 13:48 to go. UMass extended their lead back to seven as the Minutewomen got back-to-back goals to make it 11-4. Berthoff would give the Colonials their last goal of the 2026 season, scoring at 6:21 to secure a hat trick and make it 11-5. UMass would close out the contest with three unanswered goals to secure the 14-5 win over the Colonials.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mia Berthoff led the Colonials on the afternoon, recording three goals and the Colonials' lone assist, for four total points on the afternoon, eclipsing the 100 career point mark. Berthoff finished the season with a team-leading 35 goals and 48 points.
- Lea Otts and Taylor Cadeau recorded the Colonials other two goals. Otts finished the season leading the Colonials in assists, posting 26 assists on the season.
- In goal, Lucy Carney recorded 14 saves while allowing 14 goals to finish the season with a 5-7 record. Carney, a freshman, totaled 125 saves on the season and posted double-digit saves in eight games.
- On the afternoon, the Colonials took 11 shots compared to the Minutewomen's 40 shots. RMU had four shots come on goal. UMass dominated the draw control, posting a 16-6 advantage in the circle.
ALL—MAC AWARDS
The Colonials had five players named to All-MAC teams, with Berthoff leading the way with an All-MAC First Team selection. RMU had four freshmen named to the All-Freshman Team, with Otts, Carney, Taylor Burkett, and Gabi Puzevic earning honors.
