Women's Track and Field Competes in Split Squad Events

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's track and field team split up this past weekend, with half of the team competing at the Western Pennsylvania Championship on the campus of IUP while the other half competed at the George Mason Invitational in Fairfax, Va.

Senior Brittany DeMudd (Warrensville Heights, Oh. / St. Peter Chanel) headlined the Colonial squad that took part in Western Pennsylvania Championship, taking home first place in the 100-meter hurdles. The senior beat out 20 other runners with a time of 15.99 while Junior Sarah Antonaitis (Endicott, N.Y. / Union Endicott) competed in the 10,000-meter run finishing third overall with a mark of 39:24.40.

Freshman Ashley Turici (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley) displayed another great outing in the javelin throw this week, taking home third place with a distance of 40.73 m. Last weekend, the rookie finished with a distance of 42.21 m at the UNC ? Wilmington Cape Fear Classic, earning herself a trip to the IC4A / ECAC Championships this spring.

The women's team that competed at the George Mason Invitational finished in eight place out of 15 teams with 32 points. Penn State finished with 144 points to take home first at the event.

Senior Stephanie Kuhn (Finleyville, Pa. / Ringgold) continued to impress in the javelin throw at the George Mason Invitational. After setting a mark of 48.02 m at the UNC meet and qualifying NCAA East Regional, the senior posted a mark of 47.88 m, good enough to beat out throwers from Penn State, West Virginia and Georgetown for first place. Seniors Christina Roadman (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville) and Brittany Humphress (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Falls) took on some tough competition in the field events. Roadman finished third overall in the discus throw with a distance of 42.85 m while Humphress picked up seventh place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.64 m.

The women's track and field teams' next meet is scheduled for this Friday, April 6, when the Colonials cross the state line to take part in the Marietta Four-Way in Marietta, Oh. Start time for the event is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
