Women's Lacrosse Downs Wagner, 15-4, in 2007 Finale

Moon Township, Pa. - It was sweet revenge for the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team as they closed out their 2007 season by defeating the Wagner, 15-4, at Joe Walton Stadium Sunday afternoon. In the previous meeting between the two clubs, the Seahawks had defeated the Colonials, 24-11, back in the 2006 season.

Sophomore Kara Blakeley (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) and Junior Pam DeGuffroy (Irwin, Pa. / Norwin) led the offense, scoring four goals a piece. Blakeley added an assist to total five points in the contest. Sophomore Jenn Collins (Edgewater, Md. / South River) scored a goal and added three assists while Sophomore Emily Tomlinson (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) picked up a goal and two assists.

Junior Meredith Milsak (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton), Freshman Courtney Borsody (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley), Freshman Ali Gibbons (Candia, N.H. / Manchester) and Freshman Alexis Liberatore (Marriotsville, Md. / Liberty) each notched a score in the game. Sophomore Ashley Levering (Glenwood, Md. / Glenelg) extended her scoring streak to 18-games with a goal in the game.

Junior Brittanny Smith (Owen Sound, Ont. / West Hill Secondary) and Sophomore Jillian Howley (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) each tallied an assist.

Robert Morris took control of the game early, reeling off the first three goals of the contest in the opening ten minutes. Wagner got on the board to draw within two, but it was as close as the Seahawks would get as the Colonials increased their strangle hold with four additional scores en route to a 7-1 score at the end of the first half.

RMU opened up the second frame on a five goal run, extending their advantage to 11 goals and a 12-1 lead. The Seahawks looked as if they were going to make a run late in the second half with back-to-back goals at 12:47 and 11:18, but the Colonial offense kept on rolling with three more goals. Wagner closed out the game with a score at 1:35 but the deficit proved to be too large as the women's lacrosse team claimed the 15-4 victory.

All three Colonial goalkeepers saw time in net as Freshman Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) received her sixth win of the season in goal, making six saves and allowing one goal in 40:10 played. Freshman Ashley Walsh (Fairfax Station, Va. / Lake Braddock) played 16:52 with four saves and two goals allowed while Junior Lauren Hartsfield (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) finished the game allowing one goal.

Robert Morris out-shot Wagner, 41-17, while holding the advantage in ground balls, 27-11. RMU converted four of their seven free-position attempts while holding the Seahawks, 0-1. Wagner held the advantage in draw controls, winning 11 of the 20 opportunities.

With the victory, the Colonials (7-9, 4-4 NEC) capped off their best season in the three-year history of the program. RMU finished with its highest number of wins (7) as well as league wins (4), finishing .500 in NEC play.
