State College, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University women's track and field team competed at the 2008 Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa. this past weekend.
Up against some of the top competition from around the country, the Colonials put on several noteworthy performances at the annual meet.
Senior Nicole Carter (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) broke her own school record in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:01.54, good enough for seventh place. Carter's new time breaks the previous school record set two years ago at the same meet by 1.18 seconds.
Sophomore Melitta Brown (York, Ontario / Sacred Heart) finished in 11th place in the triple jump with a career-best distance of 38'4”, missing the ECAC qualifying mark by two centimeters.
Freshman Stephanie Harrison (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenite) put up her third-best distance of the season with a throw of 39'0.25” in the shot put.
The Colonials travel down south next weekend to take on the State Farm Shell Games on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Morgantown, W.Va.
