Louisville, Ky. ? The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-3 decision to Louisville Sunday afternoon at U of L Lacrosse Stadium in Louisville, Ky. The Colonials fall to 1-1 on the season, while Louisville improves to 3-0.
Juniors Jenn Collins (Edgewater, Md. / South River), Jillian Howley (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) and Kara Blakeley (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) paced the Colonials with a goal apiece.
Boasting an offense that averages 20.3 goals per game, Louisville took control early on with a 6-0 run through the first eight minutes of the game. After a free-position goal by Collins near the midway point, U of L caught fire again with seven more scores to take a 13-1 lead into halftime.
Picking up where they left off, Louisville racked up four goals to open the second half up 17-1. Both teams exchanged scores during final 20 minutes of play with Howley and Blakeley notching goals for the Colonials.
Senior Lauren Hartsfield (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) suffered the loss in goal with ten saves in 47:56 worth of work. Sophomore Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) played 12:04 during the second half.
Louisville outshot Robert Morris, 39-12, while winning the ground ball battle, 22-11.
Robert Morris returns to action on Wednesday, March 5, when the Colonials take on cross-town rival Duquesne at Joe Walton Stadium. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
