Duquesne Captures 19-4 Win Over Robert Morris

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team fell to cross-town rival Duquesne, 19-4, this afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. The Colonials fall to 1-2 on the season, while Duquesne picks up its first win to improve to 1-5.

Junior Kara Blakeley (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) and sophomores Alana Beck (Carle Place, N.Y. / Old Dominion) and Missy Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) each had a goal and an assist. Junior Jenn Collins (Edgewater, Md. / South River) rounded out the scoring with a goal.

Duquesne broke open the game early on with a 3-0 run in the first three minutes. Robert Morris countered the scores with a goal by Blakeley at the 26:53 mark, but back-to-back tallies by Ashley Wood and Kathleen McNish, who led the Dukes with five points, would extend the lead to four.

RMU came within reach at the midway point when Collins knocked in a goal past Liz Walker to make the score, 6-2. The Dukes offense though caught fire from that point on, taking off on a 10-goal run that would take the teams into the second half.

The Colonials snapped the streak with a goal by Beck at 17:46. After two more scores by the Dukes, RMU added its final goal of the game when Sunseri took a ground ball 60 yards for an unassisted goal with 11:47 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) stopped four shots in the loss, while senior Lauren Hartsfield (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) saw time in the second half with one save.

Duquesne held the advantage in shots, 28-20, draw controls, 17-8, and ground balls, 18-15.

Robert Morris remains home for its next game when the Colonials host Davidson on Friday, March 7 in a 4:00 p.m. contest at Joe Walton Stadium.
