Wildcats Claw Past Colonials, 6-5

Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team suffered its third straight loss as the Davidson Wildcats defeated the Colonials, 6-5, in a wintery mix of snow and ice at Joe Walton Stadium this afternoon.

Junior Jenn Collins (Edgewater, Md. / South River) notched two goals to lead the team, while sophomore Alana Beck (Carle Place, N.Y. / Old Dominion) and juniors Kara Blakeley (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) and Ashley Levering (Glenwood, Md. / Glenelg) tallied a goal each.

The Colonials (1-3) caught fire early on, outscoring the Wildcats, 3-1, through the first 15 minutes of play. Beck put the Colonials up, 1-0, when she beat Davidson net-minder Laura Johnson on the crease just 1:31 into the frame. Blakeley stretched the advantage to 2-0 less than a minute later with an unassisted goal on the run at the 27:52 mark.

After a Davidson goal at 23:06, Collins converted on the team's only free-position shot of the game at 19:55, giving RMU the 3-1 lead.

Despite the early deficit, the Wildcats would swing the momentum into their favor with a four-goal run to close out the half. Callie Seymour gave Davidson the eventual game-winner in the second half on a free-position shot at 21:45.

Down, 6-3, the Colonials fought back through the final 20 minutes of the game. Sophomore Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) kept the opposition at bay with 10 of her career-high 15 saves coming in the second half.

Levering and Collins notched back-to-back scores in a two-minute span to bring the Colonials within one, but the Wildcats' Johnson would close the game out with nine saves between the pipes.

Davidson outshot the Robert Morris, 21-20, and held the advantage in ground balls, 24-18.

Robert Morris closes out its three-game home-stand on Friday, March 14 with a contest against Canisius. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
