RMU Wraps Up Regular Season at Saint Francis (Pa.)

Loretto, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University women's track and field team wrapped up the 2008 regular season this past weekend as the Colonials competed at the second-annual Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash Open in Loretto, Pa.

In their last meet before the 2008 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Colonials relied on several of their young performers to lead the charge.

Freshman Corinne Moser (Meyersdale, Pa. / Meyersdale) solidified the jumping events with two top-10 finishes. Moser found herself in a three-way tie for second place in the women's high jump after posting a mark of 1.57m while earning fifth place outright in the women's triple jump with a distance of 10.54m.

Sophomore Erica Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) sealed second place with a height-clearing mark of 3.25m in the women's pole vault.

Freshman Stephanie Harrison (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenite) and junior Tara Maxwell (Butler, Pa. / Butler) provided a one-two punch in the throwing events. Harrison placed fourth overall in the women's discus throw with a toss of 40.37m followed by Maxwell who earned 11th with a mark of 33.55m.

The two teamed up later in the event for the women's shot put where Maxwell took ninth with a toss of 12.34m followed by an 11th place throw of 12.06m from Harrison.

Maxwell flew solo in the women's hammer throw, earning fourth place with a heave of 44.67m.

Freshman Jera Mennetti (Coolspring, Pa. / Punxsutawney) rounded out the Colonial performances in the women's 1,500-meter run with a sixth place time of 5:10.74.

The Colonials won't have to travel far this weekend with the 2008 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the RMU Island Sports Center. The event is scheduled to start on Saturday, May 3, and will conclude on Sunday, May 4.
